‘So You Wanna Be A Dj? part 29 ‘The Beauty Of The Turnaround’

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

happiness handsWhat a difference a month makes! Last month I was talking about some pretty heavy stuff and I have been going through some really interesting times since we last spoke.

I decided to let it all go and just enjoy myself, do new things, cut the chords that I was so attached to and of course the moment I did that, I relaxed and everything fell into place.

6 remixes later all in one month a new tv show filming in Aug ( you will prob see it in Nov or possibly earlier) a heartwarming experience teaching at Icon Collective has simply made a new woman out of me!!!! Now I know that you have to go through the crap and I would have never made these decisions had I not been forced to reavaluate. So thank god all this happened, there really is a pattern and nothing is by accident in my ever so humble opinion. So many life lessons learned, life is not all work work work, balance is key,you got to give to give hope to get hope same for love….I know I am not going to get all soppy on you all don’t worry, but I am ever so grateful to the universe for hearing me and showing me some courage to make it through but most of all I am grateful to to many that sent me their well wishes and support.Wow!!!!!

I was kinda shocked how many people reacted to my blog and told me to hang in there, and because of you I did and will.So what if my record did not have any real support, got leaked 2 months early and bootlegged with no tour in site.,i’m over it and moving on because I am more than one record.

Back on the road and having it large is where I belong but I am just as happy teaching in a classroom knowing that one day when my students are having the career they dreamed of maybe I and Icon had something to do with that.

Hope this inspired you to ‘Hang in there’ like I did!!!!!!!

‘So You Wanna Be A Dj? part 28 Regenerate yourself.

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

This blog is not just about the techy stuff in the studio but way more personal and as it’s my blog I will write from the heart. When stuff happens I write about it because you may go through this yourself as a dj and as a human, and these are some serious changes and I wasn’t to tell you how important it is to take a break sometimes.Maybe this will help you to gain some perspective as it is so important when your world is falling apart. I did and here is my view….

Now latley I have been feeling kinda dissapointed and have had a run of really bad luck….record came out early and problems with agents,labels,publicists-so called friends- breakups with boyfriends ,breakins to my home and a missed show plus  this recession is killing us all….lowest music sales ever in history….it’s been tough that my friends is only the beginning. Thank god for my family and friends who have kept me sane during this tsunami. If I actually told you what was going on you would be shocked, but I will save those juicy details for my book.No point moaning I don’t have cancer and I am young and fit and have had a wonderful career and I feel blessed.

I will do the streaming show once a month maybe more if I am playing out etc…These will be concerts and you will be able to download and buy what you hear live…so exclusive music will be yours. That means new albums with  my band etc… you won’t be able to get this anywhere else. And I hope you will do more than stop in and stare!I am going to write music just for you and you will only be able to get it if you watch my streaming show. So stay tuned.

People think you have to give to get well I can say that’s only true to a certain extent, people will keep sucking you dry till there is nothing left. So if you like my music buy it subscribe to the labels (and propa talent if you like d&B) and use that demand it button on my face book page  and when I do shows you can get t shirts for free and my music when you buy a ticket. I will tell you how when I set up these shows to see my band.

I am very excited to start teaching an Icon collective in july there will be an announcement but you heard it hear first,so many new and wonderful things happening Like I said,it’s time to do something new.

Assholes are always successful because they are willing to step on people and do whatever it takes to be successful. nice gets you nowhere, but still I would rather be a nice nobody that an evil somebody.

So I know from talking to other artistes that many are going through this.I built this business from the street for 15 years and it aint been easy, has so many people fuck me over and it’s time for some peace and happiness.I will say this there is a lot to be happy about and good things are coming my way so remember when it all gets too much, just take a long break and come back a winner!!!!!

‘So You Wanna Be A Dj? part 27 when it all goes wrong-where is the silver lining?

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

DJ Rap Digital Booklet_ARTWORKThis  blog is a personal blog about my album ‘Synthesis’ There has been some confusion about the release date  as it has changed many times. There are many good reasons for this and the label (ministry of sound had my best interests at heart here ) and we all agreed that June 29 was the right date june 15 for some exclusives…..

Today my album was if you can believe this  was accidentally released on I TUNES. I am still getting to the bottom of this as It may have been a computer glitch or human error But We know it was not  the fault of I tunes because they only do what they are told to….so my guess is Human error- I will know soon enough but at 8 am  my team decided with me that as the cat was out of the bag early so to speak we should just roll with it and make the best out of the situation which is why you saw everyone posting about it out of the blue.

The link is active now and that is the good news http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/synthesis-bonus-track-version/id370579871

The real problem is now  a demand has been created  and as this is not out anywhere but in the U.S.A  I am worried  this will lead to some punks putting it up on every free site for people to download if it is not available and there goes all my hard work not to mention 5 years of my life and 70,000 of my own money, So I could be royally screwed here.

The great news is that it is currently at number 9 in the iTunes dance chart thank s to all of you!!!!!!

I guess that is the story behind todays blog to remind yourself that ‘this too shall pass’ and every cloud has a silver lining though at the time it may seem like it is simply pissing rain all over you.

‘So You Wanna Be A DJ?’ part 26. Miami Madness

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Hi all, in this blog you might not learn much as it is just an opinion, and as my good mother says,”Opinions are like ass—-s, everybody’s got one” but I would very much like to discuss this years WMC (winter music conference). This was my 10th year or so (I forget I have gone to so many) and I am going to say it,unless I am making a large amount of green, unless it is an absolute necessity that I am there and am playing the cream of the cream shows, unless George Cloony personally invites me-this sadly was my last year. It was  something I always look forward to,I spend at least 6 months in the studio (not to mention that gym but of course it rained) in preparation,I want to bust out that new music and do my thing, all us DJ ’s do,it’s the one time we really get to show our chops and have a wonderful time doing it.

So what went wrong?  Everything yet it could have been so different. To say many  in the business were completely unprofessional would be an understatement.  People are so greedy that clubs became deathtraps, one little fire is all we need. Ps,next year check out your fire exits please before you take your pills ha ha. Seriously.

Set times were all wrong (with no apologies from those who fucked up at all) we had to play for tiny amounts of time and lets face it, there is only so much you can do in 15 minutes. Gigs with our names on flyers when we knew nothing about it with no apologies-well-you get the idea. Dj’s who I know to be mellow were losing it big time, everybody told me the same thing,This is shit. I can not name names but for those who forget what Miami is all about-Shame on you. Money isn’t everything you know.

We are used to the inflated costs by now  and the nightmare to get into a club, the muscle men and the fights at the door, the bouncers with propa attitude (sometimes I can’t blame them though to be honest) but I for one am taking a bow and spending my hard earned cash somewhere that leaves an imprint of beauty in my mind not sadness at what this has become.I want to remember it the way is was not what it is. Miami gone wild  and not in a sexy way.

To be fair some things are better. The IDMA awards were wonderful and I was glad to be part of that. To see your friends is joy itself and that saved me from catching the first flight home.Getting a chance to give back on the panels is always huge for me, I simply love to meet you guys and if I can share some wisdom, help you on your way.

On the way home I sat next to a 17 year old girl who had just gone to her first conference. To here it was a religious experience and she was so animated that I realized that while I know what it had been, this is amazing to those who have never touched it before. I talked with her endlessly about it and it made me happy, then she told me what it cost and that she would only ever be able to do it once .This was a big blowout for her and she was on her way to grownup school as she put it.

I thought, this is like becoming on of those things you go to once, maybe it will die because surely if it continues to be this expensive, with so much quantity instead of quality, the gem  will remain covered up that was once a shining diamond.

I will miss you  old Miami.Lets make it better and learn from our mistakes. You guys have the power, it’s your money that makes it happen. If you are unhappy write and complain. You need to be safe and for those prices you deserve better.

I am waiting dear......

‘So You Wanna Be A DJ?’ part 25. The Importance of Support

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Today I want to talk about YOU. How vitally  important is is that you as fans support music and come to shows. If you are a really successful DJ like Tietso etc you are probably quite well off. That happened because he worked hard, had a great team and most of all amazing fans who support him and his music and is lucky. He is probably at a stage where he can afford a life that we can only dream of. For the rest of us mortals like you and me this is an expensive hobby… and without your support one that won’t last. Many people ask me how the impact of illegal downloading has affected the business.

The answer is simple – it has  almost killed it, well we are barley breathing so to speak. But we move on and have to realize that music is now only a promotional tool. However I want you to know what goes into the  business and probably others spend more but this blog is about costs and what it takes to stay alive, so if you wanna be a dj read this. If you think we don’t work hard, read this. If you really feel after reading this that it’s not worth buying our music or coming to shows then you really are the kind of fan that will kill music in the end.

For those of us who own labels  (because we believe in our artistes and want to give others a chance as well as  wanting to bring the music we hear to the masses)  The cost are quite expensive. Let me slide you into our world.

Generally you need a label manager (2 to 4 k a month), an art designer, (50 to 150 to 300 per design). Most labels pay to have their records mixed and mastered (80 to 100 bucks) and then there is a publicist (2 to 4000 a month), often that dj has  a manager (20 percent of all earnings), an agent  (10 to 15 percent of your bookings) a business manager or accountant

(5 percent or 3 to 400 bucks a month) not to mention building websites, banners etc  all the things we need to do well…. ( there is a ton more but you get the idea) This all needed so you look professional and you can start to see how expensive that is not too mention the time put in longer than the average Joe normally. “MY PIE IS NOW TINY AND ALL I GET IS A SLITHER” May seem like we earn plenty but now you know where it goes. Again our choice but we can only exist because you make it so…..

Now add to that that music does not sell. We are practically giving it away so what is left? BOOKINGS,maybe some Merch but realistically Bookings.

Many artistes can not afford all of the above,  that is why so many fail, so you have to respect the artistes who goes it alone . Ask yourself “I wonder who does all this for them” you may find out it’s just them flying solo- doing it all themselves, so I hope you feel the same way I do when I support them by buying a download and going to shows.

If you guys don’t want to see us live we will die as artistes. I know I am good but if people don’t ask promoters who they wanna see just because you are good does not mean you will get work. Even if you have a record out,  most record companies take the piss with awful deals and the term ’starving artiste’ is really true!!! Again the huge djs have cracked it but they are few and far between.

So how can you help? If you want to continue reading blogs, watching streaming shows, downloading podcasts and all that we give remember that  it costs and we do it for the passion  and joy it gives but  like you need to eat and pay rent, so do we. Support us smaller  dj’s , ask promoters to see us  we are not just here to tweet and blog!!!!  Support the promoters in as many shows as you can .When people only go to the big shows no one can afford to go out and see the smaller ones and often these are the the magic shows too.

Listen I would love to be rich but truthfully all I need is to be able to do this and to continue doing this for a long time. When you turn up that makes it possible, when you ask promoters to see me that makes it all worth it. For all I do in return and the work I put in you don’t see- it seems like a fair trade.

I want you to realize it is totally in your hands how we all survive here. If you love us you need to do more than say hello on social sites. We need You’re  support !

‘So You Wanna Be A Dj?’ part 24 The Art Of Respecting your fellow musicians.

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

6a00d83452ceb069e200e54ffdbd9a8834-800wiFor those of you who know me, know that I have been in the business a long time. I have watched  different styles come and go blow up and implode. There are many reasons why this happens as  life runs in circles and what goes around certainly comes around,it is a pattern and life is full of rhythms,it is a pulse that resonates in us all and every single thing on the planet. I say this because I strongly suspect that what hurts you hurts me in the end. How we all helped and reacted in Haiti is proof of that indeed.

Learning to have respect is something your parents teach you if they do a good job . My mother always told me if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing. You either have class or you don’t and what you say is truly a reflection of who you are and where your mind lays. It shows people if you are insecure, afraid, jealous we think we hide it well but actually we are more transparent than we know. The Ego is our enemy indeed. I have met so many truly successful people they are always so humble  and they have less Ego than the person desperately trying to prove themselves, it really makes you look like  you’re a nobody trying hard to be a somebody. Confidant people who are secure inside know they are somebody with or without status and this animates from every pore, that is why we are attracted to confidant people.

In this industry especially always be as nice as you can be you never know who you’ll need on the way down and if you have a real career there will be valleys and peaks no one always ascends forever. We all fall at some point and how we handle that is what defines us in the end.

I write this because I released a single this month which got 15000 view in the first 3 days on drum and bass arena. Now I am used to people slagging me off though this is mainly a drum and bass attribute  (so odd that does not happen in the larger styles of music eh?) and I laugh it off because I know I am getting the reaction I want. If I wanted to make the same shit as everyone else I would not be me. I always enjoy doing something new and you never get the love for that (many  great painters and composers died poor and only got recognition many years later) so I am used to it, but for the newbee here are some tips  so you don’t WOBBLE  especially if you’re a chick.

Firstly, if people are talking about you that is a good thing, they are doing you a favor and actually promoting you. No press is bad press. Think of Madonna and what she has to put up with, so many people hate her but way more love her and she gets her revenge by living the life she dreamed up and what a life!

If you were crap no one would bother. Think about it. You got under their skin and that is a good thing. Means you are interesting.

Never respond in a negative fashion,do not bring yourself to their level. If it is slander you can send a cease and assist which warns them legally and that usually scares the crap out of them because this is now a crime. and you can press charges if someone is lying about you and your business as this can damage your business.

Example.

people saying they are one of my artistes that I scammed them and I may have never met them, this would be a perfect example of when I would  unleash my lawyer as people may believe that. However someone saying I am a loser is their opinion and would not dignify  a response from me.

I have responded when I see my fans getting attacked  as they stick up for me against the haters and I always try to calm the situation. Haters do not realize that all they do is perpetuate a stereotype and make it true, I love drum and bass but this is the kind of thing that puts so many off, same as hip hop.It is  a shame because the music is wonderful.

luckily, I am made of stronger stuff and kinda secretly enjoy pissing sexist people off ever since I was told I can’t play in the big room with the boys and get the same money that became my thing. ‘Can’t lives on won’t street’ and we will see about that my dear!  Became my mantra. Have  a mantra!

In the end  what does it matter as long as you’re happy with where you’re at and where you’re headed?

Adopt that attitude and you will laugh when you see crap because you recognize where it really comes from in that person

-FEAR THAT THEY ARE A NOBODY.THEY DO THIS BECAUSE THIS MAKES THEM FEEL POWERFUL-DO NOT GIVE THEM THA POWER EVEN FOR A SECOND.

Revenge is being happy having a life creating music is a gift, a blessing remember that so honor it well because many would love to do what you do.If this is your life you have no reason to be rude, nasty but every reason to be sweet and kind to all those around you.

‘So You Wanna Be A Dj?’ part 23 The Art Of Getting conned.

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Picture 3

The Art Of Getting conned.

Where do we start? As a new artiste it is easy to see how this can happen, you want to get started, you want to do well. You’re actually one of those artistes that gets off their ass and actually helps themselves. I know I am too. Even I, a seasoned veteran in this business knows that I can’t possibly know it all and that I am also susceptible to getting conned. How can you get conned?

In these hard times of recession there are a number of companies that will promise you the earth and tell you that when you hire them, you business will increase. There are so many companies trying to take your hard earned pennies and we all know in the electronic scene we are talking pennies.

Learning to be street savvy comes from making mistakes and experience for sure, but I am hoping to save you some of that pain and keep those pennies in your pocket.

If you are an artiste people will say you need a manger. At some point when you are huge this may be the case but you certainly need a great lawyer and eyes and ears because you are going to do a lot of reading and a lot of listening. Learning to ask questions is key, there is always someone around you who knows more than you do, and when there isn’t, there’s the internet. Use it.
If there is an artiste you respect that is doing well, see what they are doing. Why are they successful? People like Imogen heap are a great example of a pro-active artiste who helps herself in many ways.
This brings us to social networking. Lots of companies want to charge you for essentially something you can do yourself if you can be bothered and have the time, and time consuming it is- I know I spend most of my day doing this. At some point you will need help but I am talking about the new artiste here, the vulnerable chicken waiting to get ‘Plucked’
They can charge around 2000 a month for this service and if you’re a new business this can end that business before you start. So beware of them because nothing is a valuable as your personal touch and fans want to speak with you, not some intern posting and pretending to be you.
I mean what else are you doing, your new so spend time on face book, twitter etc and ask yourself this: what is going to make someone like me enough to support me and my music?
You simply going to have to be creative and work hard to get noticed.

If your music requires radio play there are numerous companies who offer services to get you that airplay, make sure you check them out carefully as some are better than others, do you need college radio or pop? Make sure you send your demos to the right companies, do your research, it is really annoying when people send me hip hop or trance because it show me they did not bother to spend 5 minutes researching my label and that means they are they type who can not be bothered at all.

I love video and I love viral campaigns, you tube has made stars out of this, a good video even on a flip camera (steve porter slapchop is a great example)
Will get you more bang for your buck than any of these companies.
Make sure you have a great website as you are driving traffic to it ALWAYS. Make sure you have music readily available and plenty of givaways.

If you own a label it is a whole new world of challenges us label owners face, how best to spend our money, and I certainty appreciate talent that helps themselves, if I see how hard an artiste works than I am more likely to sign them as well as the fact they make great tracks over someone who makes great tracks but is a nightmare to work with.

Choosing the right companies is hard, I am lucky I have people who always help me out with advice and I watch and listen all the time do those that have dared to walk down the label owner road and come out with something in their pocket.

But still always get a second and third opinion before departing with your cash, ask for references, and ask to speak with other artistes they have represented.

So You Wanna Be A Dj: Part 22 – Valleys And Peaks

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Why valleys and peaks? Some of you may notice I had had some ‘interesting’ tweets lately.
I have learned some valuable lessons this month and I want to share it with you- because I know that something funky has been going on with the planets as so many of you have had odd things happen to you recently and are going through a tough time yourselves.
I believe the worst is behind us as I feel a ’shift’ of energy. I can’t go into too much detail as I do not wish to embarrass the people who made these mistakes, it does give me nothing except knowing it will hurt them. I do not need to do that as I know they are sorry.
I have worked hard and it had taken over a year to get the labels ready to launch. Getting deals in place takes time, especially when you have TWO labels.
(we had a soft launch to test things out last year)
One mistake by someone I trusted nearly cost me those labels. Suddenly I was hit with a tsunami of problems. Legal crap, the worst and most expensive kind. I almost actually gave up. I have invested over 50k and worked hard for 4 years with my artistes just to get here. What was I going to do?
I do know it is the way we react to adversity that defines us- this was my process, to turn around shut it off and not focus on it for a while as it was consuming me, and fear is poison.
So one day last week I had no energy to work and I just could not face my computer. I watched tv (I rarely watch tv as I like to watch discovery movies etc) but I landed on a programme about the Olympics and the story of the American teams and what they went through to get there. It as so inspiring to say the least.
It taught me so much and I realized if I gave up I would be letting my artistes down and that we were all a team for better or worse.
No one knows what went down, especially them as you have to stay strong. It does not inspire confidence if your weak, especially if you have chosen to be a team leader.
Then I went upstairs and I found a book called ‘BRUCE LEE Artiste of life’ which are his letters and teachings on his philosophy of life, martial arts and his role as actor.
I want to share this with you.

‘Nothing is weaker than water
but when it attacks something hard
or resistant, then nothing withstands it
and nothing will alter it’s way.’

Be like water.

I have long had a passion for martial arts though due to injury had to take a long break which I am ready to come back to. So of course he is a hero and a great teacher to me.
His confidence is amazing, his lack of fear and his belief system has restored my faith so many times when I can’t see the point and I am lost I read this book and I realize we can not let that thought enter the universe. Anything great worth achieving has a story of turbulence to get there. Watch Hollywood E stories, the same applies.
Sometimes it seems like you’re swimming against the tides but as they say, ‘this too shall pass’.

So whatever is going on with you, I leave you with these words by the great master and hope this helps you as it helps me everyday..

If you think you are beaten-you are.
If you think you dare-you don’t
If you like to win but think you can’t,it is most certain you won’t
If you think you will lose you are lost. For out of the world we find success begins with ones will, its all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed -you are
You’ve got to think high to rise
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize
Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man
But sooner or later the man who wins, is the man who thinks he CAN.

So You Wanna Be A Dj: Part 21 – The Art Of Controlling Your Empire

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

In today’s world we can all too easily spin out of control, whether you are poor or rich we can let others control our lives, sometimes without even realizing it-a little like ’sleep-living’ as I like to call it. What does this have to do with music?

Well, say you are one of the lucky artistes that makes it. Your earning cash, you have a manager, an agent, a a business manager, a lawyer (OK, you get it) you ARE the food chain that everyone feeds off. Say that is YOU. What happens if you’re not in control of your future, if your ship is getting steered by someone else s agenda? You may be doing well but I have learned the hard way that no one cares as much as you do about yourself.

Do you really think there are people out there who say ” for 20 percent I am going to stay up nights worrying about how to make my client famous?” I bet your the only one staying up worrying about your future.

This does not mean there are no good folk out there, but so many people think a manager is going to save them, or someone will be pivotal in their career. I am here to tell you that someone is YOU. Having a great manager is wonderful-go for it! However, maintaining and overseeing all that happens in the world of you is key. Don’t go off thinking all your world is safe and all you need to do is be an ‘artiste’ while you pay everyone to take care of your ‘baby’. That baby is yours!!!!!!! you created it, went through all the shit to see it blossom, know what I mean? If you look after it well, it will do the same for you when your as old as history.

All I am saying is your great, you got this far, hiring the right team is important, but do not think that that’s all it takes. Learn the business your swimming in, for it is full of sharks. Knowledge is real power. I have said many times that all you need to do is watch what others do, the answers are always provided for us- if you know where to look. However trusting your gut, that little voice is so important.
Better to try an idea and fail than try nothing and watch others do what you wish you had the balls to do 4 years earlier. I know, it’s happened to me. I have had some great ideas and people say ‘ oh no that won’t work’ like a slave I thought they must know what they are talking about surely? Only to see someone else do the very same idea and make tons of cash. Hard pill to swallow! But a valuable lesson indeed.

Remember, you got you here. It will be you that cares the most so trust your gut.
I try to remember that I can’t kill anyone if I make a mistake so go ahead make it because it is the best way to learn. Learn how to run a label, how to produce how to market yourself, social media, Wikipedia! LEARN IT ALL. Become a JEDI in your world, master it, I have faith in you for the force is strong in us musicians.

So You Wanna Be A Dj: Part 20 – The Art Of Reinvention

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Hi guys and dolls I want to talk to you about the art of Reinvention. Why is this important? Keeping you sound fresh will keep you in the business for a long time.Ask Madonna, she is the queen of it and a great example of an amazing Career and what you can do when you don’t limit yourself. You don’t have to be like me, or her, I change my style of music like I change my hair, but being able to adapt means you won’t be a flash in the pan as they say.I want your flame to burn brightly for a long time….no words are sadder than “I used to be in the business but now I have a desk job I hate”
It is really important to check out your influences, your heroes, your fav. producers and regularly listen to what is out there. I do this every time I go in the studio because you can never get to comfortable even if you have a signature style. For example, my fans know that whatever I put out will have mad energy, but I think they also love that I always come with a new sound and do push that envelope, sometimes I get shit for cross pollination genres but now it is more accepted for sure.. so experiment away!
When you have picked a genre, be it house, drum and bass whatever flicks your switch
(in my case EVERYTHING) there is no reason why you shouldn’t be the guy or girl that turns it upside down and creates a new flavour. This is how music evolves, someone in their studio grows some balls and does his/her best to be original. Copying other people is lame, strive to be you.
Now, there are some formulas in music you should not mess with, like arrangement,it works for a reason…so don’t mess with the tricks that work. A great breakdown is a great breakdown,I can’t stand when I get a record, I love it,but the breakdown is like a limp penis. I always wonder if that is how the producer ‘producers’ in real life ha ha ha. As the old saying goes, if you can’t dance you probably can’t f–k.
My favourite label is Toolroom records
They have the art of reinvention and producing music down to a fine art. Not to mention all the amazing artistes they have on their side. I study labels, producers because I swim in their world,so I better have some chops if I hope to get some respect myself. These people and so many others in out wonderful sea of music are the best for a reason, it is not easy…In fact it is the hardest but most rewarding thing I have ever done, so the least you can do is try to be the best you can. This scene and this world deserves that, needs that from you and I.
Lastly, once you are luck enough to ‘have made it’ the real journey begins. What I am going to tell you is that once you made your first album/record like I did with ‘learning Curve’ you say to yourself ‘and now for my next trick?’ The second album is the hardest,I certainly took way too long to get back in the saddle mainly because I had poor management that kept me touring as I kept too many parasites feeding of my success I forgot the goal was to make music,it is the oil that keeps the wheels turning in my world. A mistake I will never make again. You have to keep coming with a fresh approach for your next record…and it can be a mind f–k I can tell you! For me Synthesis ( out sept 22 MINISTRY OF SOUND) was a wonderful adventure in discovering where I would go musically. So it’s not always so much drama once you know the direction you want to go in….
I love not knowing how my next record should sound…once I get in that studio and figure it out, there is nothing more exciting.Imagine the joy of having to create a completely new vision of you musically for your fans….If you want to be in the game and in it for a lifetime-keep yourself current and knowledgeable and let yourself be free to experiment in your studio…I hope you have as much joy as I do daily doing just that!
