Hi all, in this blog you might not learn much as it is just an opinion, and as my good mother says,”Opinions are like ass—-s, everybody’s got one” but I would very much like to discuss this years WMC (winter music conference). This was my 10th year or so (I forget I have gone to so many) and I am going to say it,unless I am making a large amount of green, unless it is an absolute necessity that I am there and am playing the cream of the cream shows, unless George Cloony personally invites me-this sadly was my last year. It was something I always look forward to,I spend at least 6 months in the studio (not to mention that gym but of course it rained) in preparation,I want to bust out that new music and do my thing, all us DJ ‘s do,it’s the one time we really get to show our chops and have a wonderful time doing it.
So what went wrong? Everything yet it could have been so different. To say many in the business were completely unprofessional would be an understatement. People are so greedy that clubs became deathtraps, one little fire is all we need. Ps,next year check out your fire exits please before you take your pills ha ha. Seriously.
Set times were all wrong (with no apologies from those who fucked up at all) we had to play for tiny amounts of time and lets face it, there is only so much you can do in 15 minutes. Gigs with our names on flyers when we knew nothing about it with no apologies-well-you get the idea. Dj’s who I know to be mellow were losing it big time, everybody told me the same thing,This is shit. I can not name names but for those who forget what Miami is all about-Shame on you. Money isn’t everything you know.
We are used to the inflated costs by now and the nightmare to get into a club, the muscle men and the fights at the door, the bouncers with propa attitude (sometimes I can’t blame them though to be honest) but I for one am taking a bow and spending my hard earned cash somewhere that leaves an imprint of beauty in my mind not sadness at what this has become.I want to remember it the way is was not what it is. Miami gone wild and not in a sexy way.
To be fair some things are better. The IDMA awards were wonderful and I was glad to be part of that. To see your friends is joy itself and that saved me from catching the first flight home.Getting a chance to give back on the panels is always huge for me, I simply love to meet you guys and if I can share some wisdom, help you on your way.
On the way home I sat next to a 17 year old girl who had just gone to her first conference. To here it was a religious experience and she was so animated that I realized that while I know what it had been, this is amazing to those who have never touched it before. I talked with her endlessly about it and it made me happy, then she told me what it cost and that she would only ever be able to do it once .This was a big blowout for her and she was on her way to grownup school as she put it.
I thought, this is like becoming on of those things you go to once, maybe it will die because surely if it continues to be this expensive, with so much quantity instead of quality, the gem will remain covered up that was once a shining diamond.
I will miss you old Miami.Lets make it better and learn from our mistakes. You guys have the power, it’s your money that makes it happen. If you are unhappy write and complain. You need to be safe and for those prices you deserve better.

I am waiting dear......
